Jidaiya - ramen dining by yakotori-specialist Torihei

Jidaiya is the new ramen venture from the same people who brought us Torihei, the best yakitori in Los Angeles. Needless to say I was pretty excited to try their ramen.

The Seaweed Yatai Ramen was quite light with a lot of interesting seaweed. The soup is light, maybe a little too light to go with the ramen.

Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen was much better. It had a good and simple creamy soup. The only problem is that there is too much competition in Los Angeles for good tonkotsu ramen that this version is just average.

Their UFO Gyoza is something unique. It's basically gyoza with wide and soft skin stuck together.

It actually takes some work to break them apart without the gyoza itself. Tasted okay.

Overall I think it's passable ramen but does not live up to the reputation of the Torihei brand. It's  shocking to me because according to some Japanese blogs, their ramen is nothing short of amazing. Did the quality go down after it's been opened for a while, or did we just come on a bad day? I might never know because I probably won't be visiting again.
