Soon Tofu that lifts up the spirit - So Kong Dong

So Kong Dong is my favorite soon tofu place in Los Angeles. It serves the best-tasting soon tofu, is pretty easy to go to and the parking situation is usually not bad. Last week, I was in a poor mood and didn't want to eat any dinner, but my wife suggested So Kong Dong and I ended up eating way more than normal, and was very happy afterwards.

The banchan is great and comes with spicy raw crab. Good stuff.

Their soon tofu is so hot it's like lava in a stone pot. I like the dumpling soon tofu because the dumplings are good and taste even better after soaking in the tofu soup. Their tofu has a unique flavor that stands out from other soon tofu places. Their soup is also more flavorful, not just filled with jalapeno taste.

The white soup base is normally bland at other places but So Kong Dong's soup is actually drinkable. Their mushroom tofu has three kinds of mushrooms.

The dumplings are good by themselves. I have also tried dunking the dumplings into the soup but they don't come out as delicious as the dumplings in the soon tofu.

The galbi is pretty good for a soon tofu restaurant.

I love drinking the burnt rice soup because it completely cleanses my palate.

The wait staff is quite observant and try to help out the non-Koreans. One time I didn't eat the rice soup for a while and a waiter came to nudge the rice soup towards me and indicated that I should drink it. Beverly Soon Tofu is right across the street and is pretty decent, but I prefer So Kong Dong for the taste. If you're near Koreatown, there is just no reason to go anywhere else for soon tofu.
