Angele - French Californian by the river

All the famous restaurants in Napa Valley were fully booked the night before Mother's Day, so we picked this one that has great photos on Yelp. It's a French restaurant by the Napa river. The area is quite popular and Morimoto Napa is also nearby.

The bread they served was warm and very crispy. We finished it quickly.

My favorite appetizer was the Little Gem Lettuces. Fresh and crispy and the sauce was not overpowering.

Braised Pork Belly was a bit too salty even when eaten with the sides.

Foie Gras was smooth with great flavor. The garnish and the sauce perfectly complimented the creaminess.

The appetizers were quite good and set up high expectations for the entrees. Unfortunately it didn't really deliver. First up, the risotto was good and looks beautiful.

Bourgignon was alright. The beef was tender but could use more flavor. The side veggie was amazing with explosion of flavor, perfectly Californian.

Sonoma Duck Breast was nicely cooked. Some parts were not especially good.

My mom didn't comment on the Sturgeon so it probably wasn't anything special :P

Desserts were much better and left a good impression. I love the Apple Tarte Tartin because the apple was not too sweet with a nice flavor to counter the ice cream and the crust. I thought the crust itself was a little to dense though.

It's my first time eating a Banana Gratin and thought it was pretty interesting.

I like how the chef incorporated some fresh California elements into the French menu. Maybe not the best for the price but it was nonetheless a nice experience.
